Today was a big day at Extra Transportation & Logistics. We had the honor of celebrating the beginning of a massive new project that is taking place right across the street from

our property. The groundbreaking ceremony began in our parking lot as Mayor Joe Hogsett, and many others spoke about Republic Services new initiative.
Republic Services is investing $150 million to build two side-by-side plastic recycling facilities on the southside of Indianapolis. The plastic recycling complex called Blue Polymer, will enable more rigid plastic to be recycled. The goal is to keep more plastic out of landfills and increase the supply of recycled material for reuse in manufacturing.
Currently only about 30% of single-use plastic bottles and jugs are recycled. Even after recycled, they're often remade into products like textiles, carpet or even construction pipe, which are harder to recycle again. That ends the plastic's life cycle. Polymer facilities focus on plastic circularity. This means that plastic is put back into use as its original purpose rather than being downcycled. For instance, a water bottle is turned back into a water bottle. This is huge for Indiana and the future of how our community recycles. This new project will also bring 125 new careers to the area.

We are so excited to be right next door watching the progress take place. The construction process has just begun, and the facility is set to open late 2024.
